A SUBLIME MOUNTAIN: ERCIYES

The symbol of Kayseri, Mount Erciyes, with its 3971m.height, it is the first of the Central Anatolian Region and the fifth highest of Turkey. As a result of the erosion of the tuffs it sprayed for millennia, fairy chimneys, the symbol of Cappadocia, were formed. It affected the people of the region so much in ancient times that it was mentioned as a sacred mountain in Kültepe tablets and modern inscriptions. Erciyes, which was blessed with names such as "Aşkaşipa" and "Harhara" in the Assyrian and Hittite periods, was called Argaios or "Argaeus" in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. On the coins of this period, Erciyes has been depicted as a sacred mountain for centuries with different designs.

When you go to the top of the mountain, if the weather is clear, you can watch the magnificent view of a region stretching from Cappadocia to the Toros Mountains. The famous traveler and geographer Strabo (63 BC - 24 AD) described this situation in the lines he wrote at that time as "the Mediterranean and the Black Sea can be seen from the top of the mountain on a clear and sunny day".

With its powder snow, challenging climbing routes, rich flora, fauna and plateaus, Erciyes is a frequent destination for sportsmen, nature lovers and adventure lovers. It is one of the most important ski resorts in Turkey.

With the photography exhibition "A Sublime Mountain: Erciyes" organized by the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality and the National Photography Amateurs Association (UFAD), the simplicity, heartwarming beauty, diversity and added value were tried to be emphasized, which can be seen from different points of the city.
